A protected coastal ecosystem in the Micoud district of Saint Lucia, where mangrove forests, sea moss cultivation, and Scorpion Islet create one of the Caribbean's most ecologically rich environments. Calm waters year-round. Accessible only by guided kayak or canoe.
Savannes Bay and Scorpion Islet sit within one of the Caribbean's most formally protected coastal environments — recognised at both national and international level. This is not a marketing claim. It is enshrined in law.
Savannes Bay Marine Reserve is one of only two wetlands in Saint Lucia recognised under the RAMSAR Convention on Wetlands — a binding international treaty protecting ecosystems of irreplaceable ecological value.
The bay encompasses an interconnected system of mangrove forest, seagrass beds, and coral reef that function as a marine nursery, carbon sink, and coastal storm shield. Seventeen fish species recorded within the mangrove wetland alone.
The PSEPA and Ramsar designations create a strong conservation framework around the bay, supporting low-impact activities while discouraging incompatible development and environmental degradation.
The PSEPA Management Plan specifically recognises guided kayak tours to Scorpion Islet as an approved activity. SHER operates not in spite of this designation — but in full alignment with it.
Every SHER guest agrees to observe the following rules before entering the bay. These are not guidelines — they are conditions of the experience.
